Happiness versus Positivity: Good Reads ~10%Happier
Happiness vs Positivity These are often used interchangeably and nothing could be worse for our mentalhealth in my opinion. This is me, unfiltered and happy despite my terrible fashion choices (a common issue for me but capris and rubber boots is pushing it lol) and my extremely imperfect life. I’m not going to preach that happiness is a choice. Because it’s not. Happiness is a state of being. It’s a FEELING and you can’t choose or control how you feel. You can’t suffer from depression and simply choose to be happy instead. You can’t suffer a loss (a death, a divorce, a job, a pet) and just decide to be happy. You can’t suffer from anxiety and just turn it off. That is the essence of feelings, they just happen, they are just there and sometimes they make absolutely no sense and that is ok!
What you CAN attempt to control is your thoughts. Positive thinking is an extremely powerful way of managing your feelings. While you can’t control experiencing a feeling you do have control over how you manage it. While feelings come from the heart and aren’t always rational or explainable, positivity is founded in logic. You CAN find good in everything. You can make the most of what you have. You can choose how you think about what you feel. It’s ok to not be happy. It’s how you deal with not being happy that is key. A great book on the power of positive thinking versus striving for the impossible perpetual happiness is 10% Happier by Dan Harris who states “the pursuit of happiness becomes the source of unhappiness.” ✌🏻#goodreads
